At St. Patrick, serving at Mass is more than a role-it's a way to glorify God and help our parish community encounter Him. Service enriches both those who serve and those gathered in worship.
All confirmed, practicing Catholics are invited to serve. Training, prayer, and preparation ensure that every minister honors the sacred mysteries. Whether you're experienced or exploring ways to get involved, there's a place for you here.
Altar Servers
Altar servers help lead the parish in worship, assisting at Mass with processional items, altar preparation, and key moments like ringing bells. Serving with devotion, they help the community focus on the sacred mysteries and encounter God more fully.
Before Mass, arrive 15 minutes early, put on your alb and cincture, or cassock and surplice (if in high school), light candles, and prepare items like the thurible and incense. During Mass, carry the crucifix and candles in processions, hold the Roman Missal, assist at the altar, wash the priest's hands, ring the bells at consecration, and help with incense. After Mass, return the crucifix, extinguish candles, and neatly put away vestments.
Lectors
Lectors proclaim God's Word at Mass, reading the first or second reading, leading the Psalm when needed, and offering the Prayers of the Faithful in the absence of a deacon. Training and periodic workshops are provided, and workbooks help with preparation. This ministry is open to teens and adults with a strong, clear voice and a joyful, respectful attitude.
Ushers welcome parishioners to Mass, assist with seating, and help maintain a prayerful and orderly worship environment. Ushers play an important role in making everyone feel included and cared for as part of our parish community.
Greeters are the front line of hospitality at St. Patrick, welcoming every person as an honored guest before Mass. They help ensure everyone feels the Spirit of Christ, assist with questions, and offer a friendly, caring presence. This ministry is open to anyone who enjoys making connections and creating a warm, inviting environment with a joyful attitude.
EMHCs assist priests and deacons in distributing Holy Communion at Mass and bring the Eucharist to the sick, homebound, or hospitalized. This ministry connects the parish community with those unable to attend Mass, continuing Christ's healing and compassionate work.
Any confirmed, practicing Catholic who is at least 18 years old, of good moral character, and an active member of St. Patrick is welcome to serve. We ask that you have a commitment to prayer and regular Mass attendance. All new EMHCs receive personal training from a priest to serve reverently and confidently—so you’ll feel prepared and supported as you minister to others.
As an EMHC, you help share Christ’s presence with our parish family by distributing Holy Communion at Mass and bringing the Eucharist to the sick or homebound. In this role, you serve as a visible sign of Christ’s love and care. Please note that EMHCs do not lead communion services or give blessings.
If you or a loved one would like a visit from a priest or an EMHC, simply call the parish office at 636‑332‑9225. We’d be glad to bring the Eucharist and Christ’s care to your home.
Children's Liturgy of the Word
Children's Liturgy volunteers serve during the 9:00 AM Mass by helping children hear and reflect on God’s Word. Volunteers can lead, assist with simple activities, or support behind-the-scenes needs. Training and materials are provided; Prevent & Protect is required. Whether you serve regularly or occasionally, your “yes” makes this ministry possible. Learn More
